Blogpost 4: "Homunculus"

Let's talk about Homunculus in this post, ok? Media has been releasing shows or online games that has homunculus in it. Ragnarok online has those homunuculus, Full Metal Alchemist has homunculus. We can also say that The Powerpuff Girls are also an example of  homunculus because they are created using chemicals. But what is a homunculi? Is it real? Will "it" live in the future by using genetic engineering? Or is it really an "IT"?

Homunculus a very small human or humanoid creature or an artificial humans. It is said that homunculus are created when a sperm is developed into a human without the participation of woman's egg. So, this suggest a development in a different way. It may look different from human and rather a monster as it lacks in substance.

In Ragnarok Online, which is my favourite online game, homunculus is a some kind of an extension skills of the alchemists. They are pets that aids you in battle. You can only unlock the skill tree of this by doing the Bioethics skill quest.

Full Metal Alchemist Homunculus

In Full Metal Alchemist, the homunculus is inspired by the seven  sin of humans which is wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.

Homunculus In Science?

Homunculus is the sensory map of your body.

Craig Freudenrich, Ph.D. and Robynne Boyd suggest in science.howstuffworks.com that, "The brain is hard-wired with connections, much like a skyscraper or airplane is hard-wired with electrical wiring. In the case of the brain, the connections are made by neurons that link the sensory inputs and motor outputs with centers in the various lobes of the cerebral cortex."

It's such a great representation of how many neurons are present in some parts of our body.

I believe that the research on homunculus is insufficient. Until today, there are very few research that is existing about these creatures. I still hope that alchemy is true and maybe someday be proven with science.
